The Great Return of Vatrushka

(Hubert Leńczyk / Great Britain, kitchen reconstructions)

“I remember once . . .”; “Do you remember when . . .”; “Once, in the old days . . .” The time that has gone, the people and the events of the past, are still present in the place. Not only a petite madeleine from the Proust’s novel, but also magical bite of vatrushka (a dough pastry with quark filling) may help us unleash streams of memories if we tasted it just once. For many years the range of flavors of the Kana Cellars have included the taste of vatrushka, as well as the other dishes, unobvious in their simplicity yet crafted by charismatic artistic and culinary personalities. Blini with salmon, potato in garlic sauce, Breakfast of Champions and the snafu consisting of culinary recipes and memories will produce fumes of hazy sentiments – near-noon reconstructions of the past and legendary events. Old-fashioned costumes, bar-chef’s outfits, pseudo-embarrassing movies and a “room of thrills” where you will be able to record your memory - for the next generations of the Bakers of the Great Returns of Vatrushkas.
