ALTE ZACHEN (Poland)

Alte Zachen (Yiddish: Old Things) is a band founded by guitarist Raphael Roginski (Shofar, Wovoka, Cukunft), and featuring Ola Rzepka (Drekoty, Wovoka), Bartek Tycinski and Macio Moretti (Mitch and Mitch, Baaba, Paristetris). The musicians, famous for their compulsive musical activity, this time come together as a band performing Hasidic nigunim, mixing them with, among others, rock'n'roll, surfer, and psychedelic music. Their recent album, Total Gimel, is a tribute to the religious surfer culture observed by the musicians “from the shore”. The band’s name, borrowed from the slang of Israeli scrap metal collectors, explains their concept of creating music. Today we play music that sounds like music from the 1960s, although in has been in culture one-hundred and fifty years ago, and its source traced back over five thousand years ago.
